Key Milestone Achieved in Second Gas Processing Plant Project as Final Report Submitted

The Implementation Committee for Ghana’s Second Gas Processing Plant (GPP II) has reached a significant milestone by submitting its final report to the Inter-ministerial Steering Committee at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. This report, resulting from a month of rigorous technical, financial, regulatory, and stakeholder consultations, outlines a detailed roadmap for the development of GPP II and its supporting infrastructure.

The project is a critical component of Ghana’s strategy to reduce dependence on imported fuels while bolstering the industrial and power sectors. Co-chaired by Dr. John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for Finance, the Committee’s findings highlight substantial potential savings.

Key insights from the report indicate that Ghana could save up to $1 billion annually by decreasing liquid fuel imports, recover Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) worth approximately $151 million per year, and create over 2,500 jobs during both construction and operational phases. Moreover, the project aims to position Ghana as a regional hub for gas processing and energy exports.

Minister Jinapor characterized the submission as a crucial step towards achieving energy independence, fostering job creation, and driving industrial transformation. He commended the Committee for its dedication and emphasized the government’s commitment to promptly implementing the report’s recommendations. The Ministry is fully committed to ensuring the timely execution of the GPP II project, which is expected to unlock Ghana’s gas potential and contribute to long-term energy security and economic growth.
