In a coordinated operation, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and National Security have arrested 10 foreign nationals involved in illegal gold trading in the Western Region. This crackdown resulted in the seizure of 12 pump-action shotguns, ammunition, calibration equipment, significant cash sums, and quantities of gold.
This action follows a recent warning from GoldBod against trading in gold without a valid license under its new regulatory framework. Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, announced the official launch of the new gold licensing regime, which invalidates all licenses previously issued by the former Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
During a press conference on June 30, 2025, Gyamfi emphasized that all old licenses became invalid after the non-extendable deadline of June 21, 2025. He made it clear that any gold trading activities conducted without the new GoldBod license are now deemed illegal.
“If you are not licensed by the Ghana Gold Board, you are committing a crime if you buy or trade gold,” he stated firmly. This operation underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing strict regulations in the gold trading sector and eliminating illegal activities.
