ECG Reports GH¢1.6 Billion Revenue in First Half of 2025, Says Jinapor

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has generated GH¢1.6 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2025, as announced by Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor. Speaking to Parliament on July 2, 2025, Jinapor highlighted this figure as a notable improvement in ECG’s performance, although it still fell short of the GH¢2.5 billion revenue target set for the period.

He noted that this revenue marks a significant increase compared to the same timeframe in 2024. In June alone, ECG generated approximately GH¢1.6 billion, indicating a strong year-on-year improvement in revenue collection.

The minister also revealed plans to introduce a new legislative instrument aimed at enforcing stricter penalties for individuals engaged in the illegal installation of electricity meters. While some offenders have already been arrested and prosecuted, Jinapor believes that existing sanctions are insufficient to deter such illegal activities.

He emphasized the need for more severe punishments to effectively eliminate these practices. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving revenue collection and enhancing the integrity of the electricity supply system in Ghana.
