On July 1, 2025, John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, inaugurated the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). He called upon the board to revitalize the organization and steer it toward a sustainable and impactful future. In a report by citinewsroom.com, Jinapor emphasized GNPC’s significance as a vital national asset crucial for economic growth and energy stability.
He highlighted that GNPC is not just a typical state enterprise but a cornerstone of Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry, with its investments directly contributing to national progress and energy reliability. The minister urged the new board to exhibit bold and visionary leadership to tackle the evolving challenges in the petroleum sector.
Jinapor stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and strategic direction, essential for GNPC to navigate current hurdles while seizing new opportunities. He also encouraged the board to support efforts to expand operations, particularly through Explorco. Plans to review the outdated GNPC Act were announced to better reflect current industry trends, especially amid concerns about declining oil production and reserves.
Despite the challenges, Jinapor sees potential for collaboration with global partners and views this as a pivotal moment for GNPC to reposition itself. Board chairman Prof. Oteng-Adjei expressed gratitude for the appointment and committed to a results-oriented approach in leading the corporation.
