Government Backs Nuclear Energy to Power Ghana’s Industrial Future

The government has given its full backing to nuclear energy as a vital component of Ghana’s future power mix.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, made the announcement at a stakeholder meeting in Accra on a draft bill to establish the Ghana Nuclear Power Company

He highlighted the role of nuclear energy in meeting the country’s rising electricity demand and driving industrialisation. The Deputy Minister noted that nuclear power offers a stable, low-carbon energy source that aligns with Ghana’s climate goals and strengthens long-term energy security.

He also emphasized that nuclear energy is a clean and reliable alternative that will reduce Ghana’s dependence on liquid fuels.
