Ghana Strengthens Partnership with World Bank to Advance Energy Sector Reforms

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to deepening its collaboration with the World Bank in a bid to accelerate reforms and boost efficiency across the country’s energy sector.

The announcement came during a courtesy visit on Monday by a World Bank delegation led by Dr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien, the Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition in Accra.

Discussions at the meeting centred on key reform initiatives, existing partnerships, and strategies to sustain the progress already made in improving the performance and stability of Ghana’s energy systems.

Hon. Jinapor outlined three top priorities guiding the government’s energy agenda reducing system losses, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring affordable and reliable electricity for all citizens.

He emphasized that the Ministry remains focused on strengthening the fundamentals of the energy sector, with the goal of delivering sustainable and accessible power nationwide.

According to him, Ghana is pursuing strategic measures to secure additional power generation capacity at lower costs, ensuring that future energy investments are both efficient and economically viable.

Hon. Jinapor stressed that achieving these objectives would not only stabilize the energy sector but also promote economic growth, industrial development, and job creation across the country.

The World Bank delegation reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s energy transition, describing the partnership as vital to sustaining reforms and attracting new investments into the sector.

Both parties expressed optimism that continued cooperation will yield long-term benefits, reinforcing Ghana’s ambition to build a resilient, affordable, and sustainable energy future for its people.
