Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has recruited 300 newly graduated engineers into permanent positions as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s refining industry and develop the next generation of technical professionals.
Mr. Edmond Kombat Esq. said the refinery took a deliberate decision to invest in young engineering talent by recruiting the graduates into permanent roles. He explained that the new recruits are receiving practical training and industry experience to prepare them for future careers in refinery operations.
The recruitment comes as TOR continues its recovery after more than six years without crude oil processing. During that period, the refinery relied largely on the storage of refined petroleum products for customers to generate revenue.
Under its current rehabilitation programme, TOR has resumed crude oil processing and is now processing about 28,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Mr. Kombat said the refinery also created additional employment opportunities during maintenance works on the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) Unit, where 287 temporary workers were engaged.
He added that 35 local subcontractors involved in the project collectively employed 654 temporary workers to undertake critical works across the refinery.
According to Mr. Kombat, the various initiatives have created opportunities for 1,542 Ghanaians through permanent and temporary employment, providing them with income, practical skills and opportunities to build their careers.
He said the impact of the initiative extends beyond employment figures, as the jobs have supported families, created career opportunities for young engineers and technicians, and enabled experienced professionals to transfer valuable knowledge to the next generation.
Mr. Kombat noted that the employment drive forms part of TOR’s broader reset and restoration programme aimed at rebuilding the refinery’s operations while developing local technical expertise within Ghana’s petroleum refining industry.
