Fuel Prices to Climb Despite Delay in Energy Sector Levy – COMAC Warns

Starting July 1, 2025, fuel prices in Ghana are expected to rise, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

The forecast was shared by COMAC CEO Dr. Riverson Oppong at a press briefing in Accra on June 30, ahead of the new pricing window for petroleum products.

COMAC projects a 2% increase in petrol prices, a 5% rise in diesel, and a 1% hike in LPG, marking the first fuel price adjustment since February 2025.

Dr. Oppong clarified that the expected hike is not linked to the revised Energy Sector Levy, which remains suspended and is not yet in effect.

Despite the levy’s delay, international market dynamics and other cost factors are driving the projected increase.

He cautioned that global crude oil trends and currency fluctuations continue to impact local pump prices.

Consumers are likely to feel the pinch even before any new tax policies are rolled out.

In response, COMAC is calling for regulatory reforms in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

The organization believes that reviewing operational frameworks could help cushion future price shocks for consumers.
