Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has assured citizens of the government’s determination to maintain a reliable and consistent electricity supply nationwide.
The minister made the remarks on Wednesday during a high-level engagement with representatives of major electricity consumers, particularly from the manufacturing and industrial sectors.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the minister to interact directly with large-scale power users and better understand the challenges affecting their operations.
The engagement was attended by officials from several key energy sector institutions, including the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, the Volta River Authority (VRA), and the Bui Power Authority (BPA).
During the discussions, the minister highlighted the importance of dependable electricity in supporting industrial growth, stressing that the government remains focused on delivering stable power to businesses and households.
Earlier, the minister had issued a seven-day ultimatum to ECG, the Energy Commission, and PURC to look into growing public complaints about the rapid depletion of prepaid electricity credits.
The directive calls for a thorough investigation into reports of disappearing credits and the replacement of faulty meters, with the aim of restoring public trust amid increasing electricity costs.
