The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a disconnection and revenue mobilization campaign to recover debts and address incidents of power theft. Initiated on June 16, the operation has revealed numerous neighborhoods and companies involved in illegal electricity connections and substantial unpaid bills. Among the key defaulters is Ghana Water Limited (GWL), which was disconnected from the national grid due to an outstanding debt of GH¢1 billion. This initiative is part of ECG’s broader effort to hold all defaulters accountable and enhance revenue collection. Eunice Nana Agyemang, the Revenue Protection Manager for ECG’s Accra East region, reported significant findings of electricity theft during the ongoing exercise, which has lasted for two weeks and will continue until progress is made. The operation aims to combat power theft and recover outstanding debts effectively. A document detailing the list of companies with unpaid bills was shared by citinewsroom.com, highlighting the scale of the issue. This effort underscores ECG’s commitment to ensuring compliance and financial accountability among its customers.
