The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has reiterated its strategic role in energy transformation and regional integration during the 2025 West Africa Gas Summit held in Accra. Hamis Ussif, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance, Administration, and Commerce, presented GNPC’s forward-looking gas strategy, emphasizing the corporation’s evolving role in Ghana’s gas sector. He called for strategic partnerships and infrastructure investments, stating that GNPC views gas as a bridge to a resilient and prosperous energy future for Ghana and West Africa. Ussif highlighted the critical importance of natural gas in powering industries and homes, urging stakeholders to recognize its potential in enhancing energy security and economic transformation. He expressed GNPC’s ambition to become a globally respected oil and gas company, contributing positively to the lives of Ghanaians. Currently, Ghana’s natural gas supply averages 425 million standard cubic feet per day, fueling about 70% of the country’s electricity generation. However, supply deficits are projected to widen with rising demand. Ussif invited private sector players to collaborate with GNPC in advancing the gas sector, mentioning upcoming projects to expand domestic supply and enhance infrastructure. These initiatives aim to position Ghana as the energy hub of the region while addressing domestic energy needs.
