Report Criticizes Fossil Fuel Investments in Ghana

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, ActionAid Ghana and SOMO launched a report titled Gaslighting Ghana in Ghana, highlighting the financial burden imposed by fossil fuel investments driven by foreign interests and multilateral institutions like the World Bank. The report details how public-private partnerships and projects such as the West African Gas Pipeline, Jubilee and TEN oil fields, and Sankofa Gas Project have increased Ghana’s energy-related debt, costing $1–1.5 billion annually, while failing to deliver promised energy security. Researchers like John Nkaw and Luis Scungio call for a shift to renewable energy to alleviate the strain on public finances.
