A major green energy milestone is unfolding in Eastern Africa as Kenya and Germany jointly launched the region’s first Green Hydrogen Symposium. The two-day event, hosted at the Pullman Hotel in Nairobi, brings together over 250 delegates from across government, industry, academia, and civil society.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi emphasized the need to move from “talk to action,” calling green hydrogen a transformative opportunity to power clean industries, boost agricultural production, and create sustainable jobs.
Through its development agency GIZ, Germany pledged KSh14 billion in support via the Climate and Development Partnership with Kenya. German Ambassador Sebastian Groth highlighted Eastern Africa’s potential role in global decarbonisation efforts.
The symposium co-hosted by Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and GIZ in partnership with EACREEE, features high-level ministerial sessions, investment showcases, and technical panels on financing and regulation, with outcomes expected to shape a regional roadmap for hydrogen development.
