President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration has successfully prevented Ghana from slipping back into a nationwide power crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor.” He made the declaration on Wednesday, September 10, during his first media engagement.
According to the President, when his government took office, the energy sector was on the brink of collapse. However, a series of deliberate and timely interventions ensured that electricity supply has remained stable across the country.
He described these measures as both prudent and economically focused, aimed at addressing long-standing challenges within the sector. He stressed that consistent power supply is vital for sustaining economic growth and attracting investor confidence.
The President also underlined the broader impact of energy stability on improving the quality of life for Ghanaians. He emphasized that uninterrupted electricity helps businesses thrive while easing daily hardships for households.
In addition to power sector reforms, Mahama outlined a series of economic measures his administration has undertaken. These include tax reforms, stabilizing the local currency, and efforts to reduce the overall cost of doing business.
He explained that his government has eliminated what he termed “nuisance taxes” to provide relief for enterprises and support long-term economic recovery.
The President assured citizens that these interventions form part of a wider plan to secure Ghana’s financial stability and ensure future resilience.
Mahama credited his government’s “people-centred economic management plan” for averting the dumsor crisis, which he said was inherited from previous administrations.
He noted that the progress made so far demonstrates the government’s commitment to consolidating gains while pursuing reforms that safeguard energy and economic stability.
Overall, the President’s message sought to reassure Ghanaians that his administration is focused on both securing consistent power and improving living standards nationwide.
