Energy Commission Ghana has certified and graduated 30 Energy Audit Professionals, made up of 27 males and 3 females, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen energy efficiency and sustainability in the country amid rising global energy challenges.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Ghana Institution of Engineering, was themed “A Greener Ghana: The Role of the Energy Audit Professional.” It brought together policymakers, industry stakeholders, and development partners to deliberate on energy efficiency and conservation.
The newly certified professionals are expected to contribute to reducing energy wastage, cutting carbon emissions, and improving economic resilience through better energy management practices.
Chairing the event, Ing. Kwabena Bempong described the ceremony as more than a graduation, calling it a “blueprint for national transformation.”
He noted that the renaming of the Ministry of Energy to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition in January 2025 reflects a clear national shift toward climate action and sustainability.
Ing. Bempong urged the graduates to function as “detectives of inefficiency,” tasked with identifying energy losses in factories, hotels, and public institutions.
Board Chair of the Energy Commission, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, said the milestone marks the beginning of the professionals’ role in advancing Ghana’s energy transition, encouraging them to actively support the green agenda.
Acting Executive Secretary, Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, described energy efficiency as the “first fuel” and the most cost-effective solution to rising energy demand.
She encouraged the graduates to serve not only as technical experts but also as advisors and advocates for energy conservation.
She further highlighted that the planned rollout of Energy Performance Certification for buildings will increase the importance of energy auditors in shaping sustainable development.
The Commission acknowledged the support of partners including the Ghana Institution of Engineering, the Millennium Development Authority under the Ghana Power Compact, and the Sustainable Energy Service Centres.
It added that the newly certified professionals will help reduce electricity demand, ease pressure on the national grid, and support efforts to lower energy costs nationwide.
