Extreme Weather Leaves More Than 373,000 U.S. Customers Without Electricity

More than 373,000 homes and businesses across the United States were without electricity on Monday after severe weather triggered widespread power outages, according to PowerOutage.us.

Pennsylvania recorded the highest number of outages, with more than 74,900 customers affected, followed by Michigan with over 64,000. New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Texas and North Carolina also reported significant disruptions.

FirstEnergy experienced the largest number of customer outages among utilities, though the company said its Jersey Central Power & Light unit had already restored service to more than 300,000 customers. The remaining outages were expected to be resolved by Tuesday.

DTE Energy, one of the hardest-hit utilities in Michigan, said it had restored electricity to 97.5% of affected customers by Monday evening, while Con Edison reported steady restoration efforts in parts of Westchester County, north of New York City.

The outages highlight the impact of severe storms on power infrastructure, as utility companies continue restoration efforts to return electricity to affected homes and businesses across the impacted states.
