The Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC) has presented its strategic vision for Africa’s energy future to Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, during a high-level courtesy call led by its Founder and President, Emelia Cedar-Palm Akumah.
The engagement, facilitated by Energy and Green Transition Minister Hon. John Jinapor, brought together senior government officials, energy industry stakeholders, and members of the AETC Board of Directors to discuss initiatives aimed at strengthening Africa’s energy sovereignty, innovation ecosystem, and industrial development.
At the meeting, the Centre outlined a long-term strategy focused on transforming Africa from a market that depends on imported energy technologies into one that develops, manufactures, and exports its own sustainable energy solutions.
Emelia Cedar-Palm Akumah said achieving that vision would require sustained investment in local innovation, technology development, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property to build a resilient African energy economy.
Among the flagship initiatives presented was the Youth Energy Entrepreneurship and Incubation Programme (YEEIP), which is designed to nurture a new generation of African energy entrepreneurs through technical training, business incubation, mentorship, and improved access to financing.
The Centre also highlighted the Africa Smart Energy Technology and Innovation Hub, an initiative intended to strengthen Africa’s capacity for energy research, technology development, and intellectual property creation.
Another key proposal was the Ghana National Solar Prosumer Initiative, which seeks to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar systems through supportive net-metering policies, enabling households, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and public institutions to generate and consume their own electricity.
According to AETC, the implementation of these initiatives is expected to improve energy security, stimulate industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and position Africa as a competitive player in the global clean energy landscape.
