Energy Ministry Declares Eban-Akoma Oil and Gas Discoveries Commercially Viable

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has officially declared the Eban-Akoma oil and gas discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4) commercially viable. This declaration was submitted on July 3, 2025, by a consortium of Joint Venture (JV) Partners, including Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco), in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The declaration follows a successful appraisal program that confirmed the commercial viability of the Eban-1X (oil) and Akoma-1X (gas and condensate) wells. Minister John Abdulai Jinapor described this announcement as a pivotal development that underscores the government’s commitment to sustainably developing the nation’s hydrocarbon resources.

He emphasized the significant potential of offshore resources to drive economic transformation, enhance energy security, and support Ghana’s industrialization efforts. Following this milestone, the JV Partners are expected to draft a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD) to optimize resource recovery and maximize local content in alignment with national policies.

The Ministry, alongside the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, has committed to providing the necessary oversight to ensure effective implementation of the Eban-Akoma project in line with Ghana’s long-term energy strategy. This declaration reflects the government’s dedication to fostering a transparent, resilient, and investor-friendly energy sector that delivers sustainable benefits to the Ghanaian population.
