The Energy Commission of Ghana convened a major stakeholder meeting on November 12, 2025, at the City Escape Hotel in the Airport Residential Area to deepen collaboration with players in the renewable energy industry. The event brought together over 40 participants, representing various segments of the sector.
Chaired by the Commission’s Board Chairman, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, the engagement aimed to improve industry compliance, streamline regulatory processes, and address emerging concerns within Ghana’s growing renewable energy space.
Prof. Gatsi underscored the need for timely license renewals, correct labeling of imported equipment, and strict adherence to the Hazardous and Electronic Waste Control and Management Act, 2016 (Act 917), promising continued sensitization programmes to ensure broad compliance.
Participants were also briefed on the Commission’s upcoming digital portal, which will enable online license applications and monitoring to promote efficiency, transparency and ease of regulation.
During the session, stakeholders raised questions on net metering, license categories, local content requirements and dispute resolution mechanisms, while proposing longer license renewal periods and the introduction of solar-powered water pumps for rural communities.
The Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, together with key department heads, addressed all concerns and affirmed the Commission’s commitment to advancing sector growth through open dialogue and continuous education.
The meeting concluded with renewed dedication from both the Commission and industry stakeholders to foster a transparent, compliant and sustainable renewable energy ecosystem for Ghana.
