ECG wraps up Lashibi substation upgrade ahead of deadline

The Electricity Company of Ghana has completed Phase Two of the government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme at the Lashibi Primary Substation earlier than scheduled.

Although the project was initially expected to be finalized on April 17, 2026, ECG’s engineers worked continuously to fast track the installation and testing processes, enabling completion ahead of time.

This early completion has led to the full restoration of power supply to areas that were affected by the upgrade works.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, Acting Director of Communications at ECG, the company confirmed the development.

The statement also indicated that preparations are underway for the next phase of transformer upgrades, with details on location and timelines to be announced soon through official communication channels.

ECG further disclosed plans to roll out a broader programme aimed at replacing aging distribution transformers across several communities as part of efforts to strengthen the national electricity network.

The company explained that these interventions are intended to reduce system overloads, limit frequent outages, and improve the overall reliability of power supply.

ECG expressed gratitude to residents of Lashibi and surrounding areas for their patience and cooperation during the planned outages.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to providing stable and dependable electricity services in support of national development.
