The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has confirmed the death of its Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Dramani Bukari, describing his passing as a major loss to the Authority and Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
Reports of Dr. Bukari’s death began circulating on social media on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with some accounts claiming that he passed away in London while undergoing medical treatment. The NPA, however, did not provide details on the cause or location of his death when it officially announced the news at about 4 p.m.
In a statement, the petroleum regulator expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Dr. Bukari and extended its sympathies to his family, friends, colleagues and all those affected by his death.
The NPA said his departure was deeply painful to the Board and Management, noting that he had made valuable contributions to the Authority and the wider downstream petroleum sector.
The regulator also offered prayers for strength and comfort for those mourning his death, while asking Allah to grant him eternal rest.
Tributes have since come from several figures within Ghana’s energy industry, who remembered Dr. Bukari for his professional and personal qualities.
GOIL PLC Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Edward Abambire Bawa, said he first met Dr. Bukari while they were both members of a subcommittee of Ghana’s Transition Team.
Bawa remembered the late deputy CEO as an affable, kind and accommodating person and expressed sadness over his passing.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, Onasis Kobby, also reacted to the news, expressing shock and describing Dr. Bukari’s death as devastating.
The passing of Dr. Bukari has prompted an outpouring of condolences across Ghana’s petroleum and energy sector.
