The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) of The Gambia has dismissed reports circulating on social media that electricity tariffs, popularly known as “Cash Power” rates, have been increased.
The utility clarified that no changes have been made to existing electricity tariffs, urging customers not to rely on the unverified reports.
NAWEC explained that any future adjustment to electricity tariffs would require the appropriate regulatory approvals before implementation. It added that such changes would be officially announced through its recognised communication channels.
The company also noted that electricity tariffs in The Gambia continue to receive government subsidies. According to NAWEC, the subsidies are intended to protect consumers from the impact of rising global fuel prices while helping to keep electricity services affordable for households and businesses.
The utility encouraged customers and the wider public to verify information through its official platforms and avoid sharing unconfirmed claims that could create unnecessary confusion or concern.
NAWEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and said it would continue providing the public with official updates on developments affecting electricity services and its operations.
