The Ashanti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has praised the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region for its swift response to a major electrical fault that disrupted power supply to communities in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC, Edward Boduah Kingston, commended ECG’s management and technical staff for their professionalism, dedication and prompt action in restoring electricity.
In a letter addressed to ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese, Mr. Kingston said the team’s response demonstrated the utility’s commitment to addressing consumer concerns and maintaining reliable electricity supply.
The recognition followed a fault at Esereso High Tension on August 6, 2026. A broken connection on the KAASE2 overhead interconnector resulted in electrical arcing and interrupted power supply at approximately 5:46 p.m.
Although the incident occurred outside normal working hours, ECG’s Line Maintenance team mobilised immediately to address the fault. The technicians worked under difficult conditions, including using torchlight, until the damaged connection was repaired and power restored.
PURC said the team’s willingness to work under challenging circumstances and beyond regular working hours demonstrated its commitment to maintaining service for consumers.
Responding to the commendation, Ing. Ohenese praised the team for its commitment and sense of responsibility, saying the successful restoration reflected the dedication of ECG engineers and technicians to keeping the network reliable and safeguarding consumer interests.
The recognition underscores the role of ECG’s technical teams in responding quickly to faults, limiting disruptions and maintaining public confidence in electricity service delivery.
