Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry is preparing to step away from the offices, depots and filling stations and onto the playing field as the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) Petroleum FUN Games (PETFUN) 2026 returns to the Burma Camp Sports Complex on 11th and 12th September 2026, starting at 7:00 a.m.
Now an established fixture on the industry calendar, PETFUN Games brings together Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketing Companies (LPGMCs), Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), regulators and other stakeholders for two days of sport, networking and wellness. The 2026 edition is expected to build on the momentum of last year’s games, which saw companies compete across football, volleyball, swimming, table tennis and a range of recreational activities.
The 2025 PETFUN Games demonstrated the breadth of participation that the event has come to attract. Football produced a competitive final, with Huss Petroleum taking first place and Star Oil finishing second. Star Oil also emerged as the Overall Best Company, while Ghana Gas Company was recognised as the Most Organised Company.
The games extended well beyond the major team sports. Participants competed in swimming, cards, ludu, checkers, sack races, lime and spoon, apple chewing and tug of war, creating opportunities for employees across different companies and age groups to take part.
The range of activities is central to the character of PETFUN. While competition remains part of the attraction, the event also provides an opportunity for colleagues who routinely interact across commercial and regulatory settings to meet in a less formal environment.
That combination of sport and interaction is expected to remain a key feature of the 2026 edition.
What to expect in 2026
With the 2025 edition setting a strong competitive benchmark, attention now turns to which companies will emerge as the leading contenders in 2026.
Star Oil will enter the new edition with the distinction of having claimed the overall title last year, while Huss Petroleum will look to defend its position as football champions. The National Petroleum Authority, GOIL PLC, Ghana Gas Company and other participating organisations will also have an opportunity to build on their performances across the various disciplines.
Last year’s results showed that success was spread across the industry. GOIL PLC performed strongly in swimming and the men’s sack race, the National Petroleum Authority featured prominently in volleyball, table tennis and the women’s sack race, while several companies including Misa Energy, IBM Petroleum Limited, PETROSOL Platinum Energy, Zen Petroleum, Tema Fuel Company, So Energy, Xpress Gas, JP Trustees, Benab Oil, Life Energy and MM Energy secured places in the individual recreational competitions.
That variety is likely to make the 2026 competition difficult to predict.
Beyond the trophies and medals, the games will provide an opportunity for industry employees to reconnect, form new relationships and reinforce the sense of community across Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
For two days, the focus will shift from petroleum prices, regulations, supply chains and commercial operations to teamwork, fitness, competition and fun. The COMAC PETFUN Games 2026 takes place at the Burma Camp Sports Complex on 11th and 12th September 2026 from 7:00 a.m.
