1,200MW Thermal Power Project Progressing Steadily – Energy Minister

Government’s flagship 1,200-megawatt thermal power project is making steady progress, with key preparatory and implementation activities advancing according to schedule.

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor, expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved during an engagement with Ghana Thermal Power Limited, the special purpose vehicle established by government to implement the initiative.

According to the Minister, the project forms a central part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s electricity generation capacity and enhance long-term energy security. He noted that the additional generation capacity will support both households and industries while improving the reliability of power supply across the country.

“The progress we are seeing is encouraging. It shows that we are firmly on course to deliver additional reliable generation capacity to support both households and industry,” Dr. Jinapor said.

He further described the project as a transformative investment that goes beyond increasing installed capacity, stressing that it will help build a resilient and sustainable power system capable of supporting Ghana’s economic growth and development objectives. The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding generation capacity and maintaining a stable electricity supply.
