Ghana’s upstream petroleum regulator, the Petroleum Commission, has entered into an agreement with Kosmos Energy Ghana to second some of its engineers to the company’s facility in Houston, Texas.
The agreement was signed on Thursday as part of efforts by the Petroleum Commission to develop a technically skilled workforce capable of effectively regulating and supporting Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry.
According to the Commission in a post on Facebook, the seconded engineers will receive practical exposure to international industry standards, specialised technical operations and professional practices during their time at Kosmos Energy’s Houston facility.
The Commission said the experience gained through the programme would contribute to strengthening its institutional and technical capacity.
Petroleum Commission Chief Executive, Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle and Kosmos Energy Senior Vice President and Head of Ghana Business Joe Mensah, who represented their respective institutions at the signing, said the partnership would contribute to developing local technical expertise and supporting the continued growth of Ghana’s petroleum industry.
The Commission described the secondment programme as an investment in Ghana’s technical capabilities and the long-term development of the country’s upstream petroleum sector.
It also expressed appreciation to Kosmos Energy Ghana for its support and collaboration in making the initiative possible.
