VRA’s Ing. Obeng-Kenzo and Ghana Gas’ Judith Blay named Energy Personalities of the Year 2025

The chiefs of Ghana’s power and gas utilities have been named Energy Personalities of the Year at the 9th Edition of the prestigious Ghana Energy Awards, recognising their leadership in stabilising electricity supply and advancing the country’s gas-to-power agenda.

Ing. Edward Obeng-Kenzo, Chief Executive of the state-owned Volta River Authority (VRA), received the Male Energy Personality of the Year award for what the Awarding Panel described as his role in improving operational performance and supporting generation reliability across the national grid.

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, was named the Female Energy Personality of the Year for guiding the company through technical and operational challenges and strengthening its role in domestic gas delivery.

In his remarks, Ing. Obeng-Kenzo dedicated the award to VRA staff, saying it reflected the organisation’s efforts to maintain consistent power generation to support economic activity. Madam Judith Blay said the recognition underscored the work being done to improve efficiency and expand Ghana’s gas infrastructure.

The event, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, brought together government officials, energy executives and international partners. 36 individuals and organisations were honoured across award categories, selected from over 500 nominations.

Organised by the Energy Media Group, the annual awards recognise performance, innovation and governance across Ghana’s energy value chain and have become the country’s most prominent sector event.
