The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), under the leadership of Board Chairman Mr. Gabriel Kumi, has taken a significant step toward enhancing transparency in Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector through a high-level engagement with the Right to Information (RTI) Commission.
During a courtesy visit to the RTI Commission in Accra, COMAC was represented by its CEO, Dr. Riverson Oppong, Samuel Wristberg, and legal counsel Adjoa Baah. They met with Executive Secretary Genevieve Shirley Lartey, Board Member Nana Kwame Duah, and Stephen Owusu, Esq., to explore ways of strengthening open governance practices and facilitating timely access to regulatory information within the petroleum industry.
The dialogue focused on capacity-building initiatives to support RTI compliance and the creation of secure, lawful data-sharing mechanisms between industry stakeholders and oversight bodies. Both parties acknowledged the need to empower citizens with access to reliable industry data while safeguarding commercial confidentiality and regulatory duties.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, COMAC emphasized its alignment with the RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989), and its goal of fostering a more open and citizen-friendly petroleum sector. The engagement underscored a shared vision to build public trust through consistent information flow and institutional collaboration, marking a progressive move toward good governance in the downstream industry..
