NPA warns of closure and decommissioning of unlicensed fuel stations

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has warned fuel stations operating without the legally required license that they face immediate closure and possible decommissioning.

In a statement, the regulator said the move aims to clamp down on illicit operations and enforce compliance in the downstream petroleum sector. Backed by its legal mandate under the NPA Act 2005 (Act 691) as amended, the Authority stressed that no person or business can engage in petroleum storage, distribution, or sales without a license issued by the NPA Board.

The NPA cautioned that offenders will have their outlets locked or dismantled and reminded operators that all valid licenses must be clearly displayed on premises, as required by law. It urged all individuals and companies in the sector to adhere strictly to licensing and operational regulations to avoid sanctions.
