Kenya: EPRA Reduces Diesel Prices, Raises Kerosene Costs Following Fuel Protests

Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has reduced diesel pump prices by KSh10.06 per litre while increasing kerosene prices by KSh38.60 per litre. The price of Super Petrol remains unchanged.

Under the new pricing, motorists in Nairobi will continue to buy Super Petrol at KSh214.25 per litre, while Diesel and Kerosene will retail at KSh232.86 and KSh191.38 respectively. The revised prices took effect on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and will remain in place for the next 30 days.

The adjustment comes after nationwide demonstrations by public service vehicle operators over rising fuel prices. The protests reportedly left four people dead, injured 30 others, and led to the arrest of 348 individuals.

In a statement, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) said it had received a petition from transport operators calling for measures to reduce the risk of fuel adulteration resulting from the growing price gap between diesel and kerosene.
