Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has named Frank A. Otchere, Chief Executive of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the 2026 Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP) Champion of the Year for the Power Sector.
The award recognises Mr. Otchere’s leadership and contributions to maintaining the resilience and reliability of Ghana’s electricity supply system, according to the citation accompanying the honour.
The ministry particularly highlighted GRIDCo’s response to the fire incident at Akosombo in April 2026. Following the incident, the company swiftly deployed technical and operational teams to establish a temporary transmission connection, enabling the Akosombo Generating Station to reconnect to the national grid.
The intervention helped prevent a wider disruption to the country’s power system, the citation noted.
The ministry also commended Mr. Otchere for his commitment to improving operational efficiency, strengthening system reliability and ensuring prudent management of Ghana’s electricity transmission network.
The award was presented during a sector wide retreat in Ho, which brought together board chairpersons and members, regulators, heads of energy sector institutions and officials from the ministry.
GRIDCo Deputy Chief Executive Abdul Samed Ibrahim received the award on behalf of Mr. Otchere, accompanied by board member Daniel Atchulo.
In a statement following the presentation, GRIDCo’s board, management and staff welcomed the recognition and expressed appreciation to Mr. Otchere for his service to the company and the country.
