GRIDCo Appoints Ing. Frank Otchere As Chief Executive Officer

Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced a new leadership team with the appointment of Ing. Frank Asirifi Otchere as Chief Executive Officer effective Friday May 8, 2026.

The announcement was made through an internal circular issued by the Board Chairperson Mrs. Kuukua Maurice Ankrah.

As part of the changes Ing. Samuel Nkansah has been named Deputy Chief Executive responsible for Finance and Resources while Ing. Samed Abdul Ibrahim has assumed the role of Acting Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations. Prior to the appointment he served as Director of the Project Implementation Unit.

Management has encouraged staff to cooperate fully with the new executives as they assume their responsibilities.

Ing. Otchere succeeds Ing. Mark Awuah who stepped aside weeks before reaching retirement age after the fire outbreak at the GRIDCo switchyard substation in Akosombo.

The incident led to the shutdown of the entire Akosombo Generating Station which has an installed capacity of 1,020 megawatts causing widespread power interruptions across the country.

Before taking over as Chief Executive Officer Ing. Otchere had been serving as Deputy Chief Executive since March 2025. Over the years he has also occupied key technical positions including Director of System Operations.

He brings close to three decades of experience within the VRA GRIDCo system with expertise in power system planning operations and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition technologies.

Ing. Otchere currently heads the Power Planning Technical Committee established by the Ministry of Energy to prepare Ghana’s short medium and long term electricity supply plans.

He also chairs the Ghana Côte d’Ivoire Interconnection Technical Committee the Ghana Burkina Interconnection Technical Committee and GRIDCo’s Operating Procedures Review Committee.

Academically he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of Public Administration degree from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

He is recognised as a Professional Engineer under the Electrical and Electronic Technical Division of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Ing. Otchere also served on the national Load Management Committee constituted during Ghana’s 2012 to 2015 power crisis to supervise electricity load shedding operations.

Outside the energy sector he serves as a Reverend Minister at the Anointed Matrix Church which belongs to the United Denominations of the Lighthouse Group of Churches. He is married and has four children.
