Government is developing a 1.5-gigawatt renewable energy pipeline dedicated to industrial use as part of efforts to reduce electricity costs and improve the competitiveness of Ghanaian businesses.
Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, said the initiative is intended to provide a more stable and affordable electricity supply for manufacturers, agro-processors and other energy-intensive industries.
Speaking at the 2026 AGI Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition, Hon. Ahi identified the cost of electricity as one of the industry’s most persistent constraints, saying the proposed renewable energy pipeline is government’s direct response to concerns raised by the business community.
He said the 1.5GW pipeline would support industries with more reliable electricity while reducing their dependence on expensive conventional power sources.
“One of industry’s most persistent constraints, the cost of power, through a 1.5 GW renewable energy pipeline dedicated to industrial use,” he said.
The initiative forms part of government’s broader industrial transformation strategy, with the renewable capacity expected to support businesses seeking to expand production and operate more competitively.
For energy-intensive sectors, access to lower-cost and reliable electricity remains critical to production costs and investment decisions. The proposed renewable energy pipeline therefore represents an effort to link Ghana’s renewable energy expansion more directly to industrial demand.
Hon. Ahi said government would continue working with the private sector to create conditions that support investment, production and job creation.
The 2026 AGI Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition is focused on strengthening government-private sector collaboration to accelerate industrial development.
