GNPC Marks 40 Years of Energy Innovation and Impact

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 15, 2025, with an event held at the Presidency’s Villa Dome under the theme “From Resource to Reality: 40 Years of Impact and Innovation.” The milestone gathering included notable figures from Ghana’s leadership, such as the Vice President and Minister for Energy, as well as executives from ExxonMobil and the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO). CEO Kwame Ntow Amoah delivered a keynote address reflecting on GNPC’s transformative journey since its establishment, emphasizing its mission to secure Ghana’s sovereignty over petroleum resources and elevate the nation’s status in the global energy sector.

He highlighted significant achievements, including Ghana’s entry into commercial oil production through the Jubilee, TEN, and Sankofa Gye Nyame discoveries. Mr. Amoah acknowledged the corporation’s resilience in overcoming various challenges and credited the dedicated workforce for shaping GNPC’s legacy. Looking to the future, he stressed the importance of energy transition, digitalization, and sustainability, noting that these are now essential imperatives.

Under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset and Growth Agenda, GNPC aims to adopt new technologies and enhance its operational capabilities. The evening’s celebrations set the stage for a year-long commemoration of GNPC’s achievements and ambitions, with a vision to become a leading oil and gas company by its 50th anniversary. The event underscored GNPC’s commitment to energy security and sustainable development, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global energy industry.
