Ghana’s flagship energy-industry awards scheme, the prestigious Ghana Energy Awards, plans to launch what it says will be Africa’s first fully integrated digital platform for nominations and evaluation in 2026, as the event marks its 10th anniversary.
Speaking at the biggest gathering in Ghana’s Energy sector in Accra, Event Director Ing. Henry Teinor said the digital system would automate nominations, assessments and validation procedures, and allow the award panel to determine winners through a unified online interface.
Ing. Teinor said the platform was intended to improve transparency and efficiency in the selection process. “Once launched, it will be the first of its kind among awards schemes in Africa,” he said.
This year’s edition received more than 500 submissions across 26 categories, despite what organisers described as one of the shortest nomination windows since the scheme began. Nominations opened in September and closed on October 31st.
The 2024 awards also secured endorsement from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), with further institutional backing expected ahead of the 10th anniversary event next year.
Ing. Teinor said the evaluation framework had been strengthened through an additional round of independent technical assessments led by energy expert Dr. Alfred Ofosu-Ahenkorah, complementing the work of the five-member Awarding Panel. Site visits were conducted to verify project claims, and virtual tools were used to broaden participation among nominees outside Accra.
The Energy Media Group, organisers acknowledged support from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the World Energy Council Future Energy Leaders (FEL) Ghana, validating firms Forvis Mazars and Casely Brooke Law Firm for strengthening transparency and governance in the awards process.
