Energy Transitions Commission Flags Risks in Global Clean Energy Trade

The Energy Transitions Commission has issued a new report warning about the risks of over-reliance on concentrated clean energy supply chains and highlighting the urgent need for global carbon pricing cooperation.

The briefing note, titled “Global Trade in the Energy Transition: Principles for Clean Energy Supply Chains and Carbon Pricing”, lays out recommendations for countries to build resilient domestic supply chains while working toward international agreements on carbon pricing and border adjustment mechanisms.

These tools, the report notes, are key to decarbonising sectors that are harder to shift away from fossil fuels. The release comes at a time when clean technology costs have dropped significantly solar PV module prices have dropped by 94% since 2011, and lithium-ion battery prices by more than 92% since 2010.
