
Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor has undertaken a working tour of major electricity infrastructure projects in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to improve power stability and strengthen electricity supply within the middle belt.
The visit centred on transmission and distribution enhancement projects being executed by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity delivery in the region.
During the tour Hon. Dr. Jinapor inspected ongoing upgrade works at the Anwomaso and Kumasi substations where transformer expansion and replacement projects are currently in progress.
The projects are expected to boost bulk electricity supply capacity while improving service reliability for homes businesses and industries across the Ashanti Region and nearby areas.Addressing officials during the inspection the Minister stated that the projects form part of government’s broader strategy to modernise the country’s electricity infrastructure and develop a stronger and more resilient national power network capable of supporting industrialisation and economic growth.
Hon. Dr. Jinapor further revealed that government is advancing plans to add nearly 1,000 megawatts of electricity generation capacity within the middle belt through several strategic projects.
The planned additions include the 350 megawatt AKSA Power Plant the 110 megawatt CENIT project the 250 megawatt AMERI Power Plant and the 380 megawatt ARVENSIS Energy Project.
According to the Minister the new generation capacity together with ongoing transmission and distribution improvements will help meet rising electricity demand improve supply reliability and strengthen Ghana’s long term energy security.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to developing a modern and efficient electricity system capable of supporting investment industrial expansion and socio economic transformation across the country.
