The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a GH¢2.76 million initiative to enhance electricity distribution in the Ashanti Region.
The project involves constructing a new 11kV power distribution line from the Afari Primary Substation to Nkawie, aiming to improve supply reliability.
According to ECG’s Ashanti West Regional Manager, Ing. George Amoah, the project is part of a broader strategy to upgrade infrastructure in Greater Kumasi and neighboring areas.
One of the main reasons for the project is to reduce the strain on the overloaded Agogo Primary Substation feeder.
Residents of Nkawie, Toase, Mpasatia, and surrounding communities are expected to benefit from a more stable power supply.
The upgrade includes the installation of 92 eleven-meter poles and three twelve-meter poles to support efficient power transmission.
Previously, long-distance lines caused low voltage issues, especially during peak usage times, affecting household and business operations.
Ing. Amoah emphasized that the new infrastructure will improve voltage levels, cut down system losses, and enhance overall efficiency.
Ultimately, the goal is to ensure reliable, consistent electricity that supports community development and economic activity.
The ECG sees this project as a major step in modernizing Ghana’s power distribution network for long-term sustainability.
