The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) Petroleum FUN Games 2026 brought together companies, regulators and other stakeholders in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry for two days of sporting competition, recreation and networking.
The games, held on September 11 and 12, shifted the attention of industry participants from the commercial and regulatory issues that typically define their working relationships to a programme centred on sport, wellness and interaction.
Football was played on Friday, September 11, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, while the remaining sporting and recreational activities took place on Saturday, September 12, at the Burma Camp Sports Complex in Accra.
Opening the games, COMAC Board Chairman Gabriel Kumi said the event was intended to provide an opportunity for industry participants to interact outside their usual commercial environment.
“Today we are not competing on the market for customers. It is time for us to come together, have fun, know ourselves better, compete this time not in market share but compete in the area of games,” Kumi said.
He urged participants to maintain the spirit of friendly competition throughout the event.
“This is a very friendly competition, so let’s make sure we compete in an aggressive but soft manner so that we can all report to work on Monday,” he said.
RANGE OF SPORTING EVENTS
Desert Oil emerged as the football champion, securing the top prize in one of the event’s main team competitions. The football competition at El-Wak set the tone for its semi-finals on Saturday.
GOIL PLC dominated several of the team and individual events on Saturday, winning both the men’s and women’s volleyball competitions, swimming, the men’s sack race and the men’s lime and spoon competition. BOSTenergies also recorded notable results, winning the women’s sack race and table tennis.
The games extended beyond the major team sports, with participants competing in recreational activities designed to involve employees with different interests and abilities.
Rock Africa won the tug of war, while Benab Oil took the women’s lime and spoon competition and the draft competition. Xpress Gas won cards, JP Trustees secured the ludo title and MISA Energy won the apple chewing competition.
Zen Petroleum emerged winner of the CEO Shootout Challenge, adding an executive dimension to the programme.

SPORT AS A PLATFORM FOR INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
PETFUN has become part of COMAC’s efforts to create opportunities for interaction across the downstream petroleum sector. Participants included Oil Marketing Companies, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketing Companies, Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies, regulators and other industry stakeholders.
The event also placed attention on employee wellness and participation beyond conventional sporting disciplines.
The 2026 games demonstrated that competition can coexist with networking and industry engagement. While trophies provided a clear incentive for participants, the broader programme created space for employees from different organisations to meet outside offices, commercial negotiations and regulatory engagements.
For COMAC, the continuation of PETFUN reflects the role industry associations can play in creating platforms that extend beyond policy and commercial discussions.
The two-day event ended with individual companies taking home honours across the various disciplines, but its broader outcome was less about a single overall winner than the opportunity for participants across Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry to compete, interact and strengthen professional relationships in a different setting.
