John Jinapor Urges New TOR Board to Revitalize Refinery Operations

John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in Accra, calling for urgent action to restore the refinery’s operational capacity. The ceremony, conducted on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, represents a significant effort to revitalize a crucial institution that has faced ongoing financial and operational difficulties.

During the inauguration, Jinapor emphasized the refinery’s vital role in ensuring Ghana’s energy security, stating that the board’s primary responsibility is to return TOR to profitability. He urged the new members to develop a comprehensive roadmap to tackle the refinery’s challenges and enhance its position within Ghana’s energy landscape.

Chairperson Nayon Bilijo expressed gratitude for the appointment and affirmed the board’s commitment to revitalizing TOR. The nine-member board, which includes acting Managing Director Edmond Biribia Kombat and seven other members, is expected to quickly assess the refinery’s condition and propose a turnaround plan aligned with government policies and national energy objectives. The call to action underscores the government’s focus on making TOR a viable and efficient player in the energy sector.
