Karpowership Ghana Launches All-Female Internship Program to Empower Women in Energy

Karpowership Ghana has initiated an all-female internship program in collaboration with the World Bank’s Women in Energy Network (WEN) Africa, aiming to reduce the gender gap in Africa’s energy sector. Launched in January 2025, this initiative aligns with the World Bank’s Gender Strategy for 2024–2030 and focuses on empowering young women by bridging the gap between academic training and industry experience.

The program prioritizes employability, professional development, and promoting STEM education among girls. Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager at Karpowership, emphasized the importance of this initiative in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.

In addition to the internship, Karpowership offers a scholarship scheme in partnership with Takoradi Technical University, specifically designed to support female engineering students. The company organizes career guidance sessions to equip young women with essential job market skills, reinforcing their preparation for long-term careers in leadership roles.

Interns like Amanda Amamu and Gracia Ewura Esi Amoah have shared transformative experiences, gaining practical skills in various departments such as HR and Finance. The inclusive culture at Karpowership ensures equal opportunities for all employees, enhancing the internship experience.

Overall, Karpowership Ghana’s commitment to investing in young women is not merely a program but a mission to foster leadership and equity in Africa’s energy landscape, empowering future female leaders.
