The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is advancing the use of renewable energy to support cost-effective industrial operations and drive long-term sustainable economic development. The initiative forms part of AGI’s broader efforts to ensure that Ghanaian industries remain resilient and competitive in a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.
At the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Business-to-Business (B2B) Expo held in Accra and organized by the AGI Energy Service Centre, key industry stakeholders convened under the theme “Powering Ghana’s Industry through Sustainable Energy.” The event served as a platform for dialogue and partnerships among energy experts, financial institutions, businesses, and policymakers.
The AGI stressed that Ghana’s current reliance on the national electricity grid is not sustainable, especially for industries looking to operate continuously. The Expo emphasized the need for greater investment in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, tidal, wave, and municipal waste, as part of a national strategy to ensure uninterrupted, affordable, and environmentally friendly power supply for industrial use.
The association highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration to expand renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of innovative energy solutions. The AGI Energy Service Centre was established to support industries in navigating the transition toward clean and sustainable energy alternatives.
Ghana’s ongoing energy sector challenges, including a debt burden estimated at US$3 billion, have further reinforced the urgency of moving toward greener power options. Renewable energy is increasingly seen as a viable and necessary solution to reducing costs, enhancing productivity, and ensuring energy security for industries.
