First Sky Group to Launch 50MW Solar Power Plant in March 2026

First Sky Group will commission a 50-megawatt solar power plant in March 2026 to supply electricity to the national grid, its founder and executive chairman Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse said.

The project, being developed by subsidiary First Sky Energies, is located in Yendi in the Northern Region and is currently under construction on 140 acres of land.

Mr. Kutortse made the announcement in Accra during the group’s 23rd anniversary and thanksgiving service, outlining the company’s expansion into renewable energy.

He said the plant is intended to help cushion Ghana against unexpected power shortages and improve supply reliability nationwide.

The chairman said the investment reflects First Sky Group’s commitment to sustainable development and strengthening Ghana’s energy infrastructure. He added that natural alignment with the country’s green energy transition agenda was a key driver of the project.

According to Mr. Kutortse, the facility will be a fully Ghanaian-owned utility-scale solar project and the second-largest of its kind in the country.

He said the project supports United Nations development goals on affordable and clean energy, decent work, economic growth and climate action.

When operational, the plant is expected to create about 300 jobs, with most opportunities targeted at communities in northern Ghana.

Mr. Kutortse said the project would also help position Ghana as a regional leader in renewable energy and sustainable development.
