The Tema Oil Refinery is set to resume full operations by October 2025. Management says the move is expected to significantly cut Ghana’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
Appearing before Parliament’s Energy Committee, Acting Managing Director Edmund Kombat revealed that the refinery is targeting the processing of up to 60 percent of the country’s crude oil consumption. This, he noted, could save the nation an estimated 400 million US dollars in monthly fuel import costs.
Operations at TOR were suspended in 2021 due to a lack of crude oil. However, the Acting MD assured the committee that comprehensive measures are being rolled out to restore and maintain the refinery’s operations at optimal levels.
