The Minister of Energy and Green Transition Reviews WAPCo Performance, Sets 2026 Energy Priorities

Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has held talks with the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) to assess its operational performance in 2025 and outline strategic energy priorities for 2026.

The meeting took place in Accra as part of the government’s ongoing engagement with key regional energy institutions. Hon. Jinapor said WAPCo’s performance over the past year had strengthened its role in safeguarding energy security across West Africa.

He noted that under Ghana’s Gas-to-Power Policy, natural gas continues to play a central role in the country’s electricity generation mix.

The minister said close collaboration with WAPCo was critical to optimising gas supply capacity, improving system reliability and supporting future infrastructure expansion.Such cooperation, he added, would help Ghana meet rising energy demand while maintaining stable power supply.

Hon. Jinapor said deepening partnerships with regional stakeholders aligns with the government’s push for a secure, efficient and sustainable energy transition.

He stressed that affordability for households and industry remains a key consideration in energy planning. WAPCo officials reaffirmed their commitment to high operational standards and continued collaboration with the ministry.

The discussions form part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance the resilience of Ghana’s energy supply system.
