South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will speak at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, held from September 29 to October 4 in Cape Town, where he’ll highlight the country’s ambitious infrastructure and energy reforms.
South Africa is pushing bold regulatory and policy shifts to address its ongoing energy crisis, including the implementation of the Electricity Regulation Act and Renewable Energy Masterplan, both rolled out in 2025 to enable private-sector participation and boost clean energy investment.
Recent infrastructure milestones include the Kusile Power Station, with all six units set to generate 4,800 MW by the second half of 2025, and the Medupi Station, which is nearing the commissioning of its fourth unit toward another 4,800 MW output.
