Rafiki Briquettes Transforming Clean Energy in Tanzania

At the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, Tanzania, Rafiki Briquettes have emerged as a groundbreaking solution for clean cooking energy, revolutionizing the traditional charcoal market. Launched by the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), these briquettes are made from refined coal residues and are designed to reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal, promoting environmental sustainability.

Deus Alex, STAMICO’s Marketing Manager, emphasized the briquettes’ affordability, efficiency, and low smoke emissions, which contribute to healthier cooking environments. The initiative not only addresses energy needs but also empowers women and small-scale miners by creating business opportunities across various regions, including Dodoma and Zanzibar.

Government officials, including Dr. Suleiman Serera, have praised the project for its inclusive approach, ensuring that mineral resources benefit a broader community rather than just investors. The Tanzanian government is committed to supporting clean energy access, with plans for 80% of the population to use clean cooking energy by 2034.

Rafiki Briquettes are positioned as a key player in achieving this goal, with significant production capacity and ongoing partnerships to expand distribution. By replacing traditional fuels with these innovative briquettes, STAMICO aims to improve public health and contribute to national sustainability efforts, making clean energy accessible to all Tanzanians.
