Norwegian renewable energy firm Scatec has officially begun construction on the Obelisk solar-storage giga-project in Egypt, marking a significant step in the country’s clean energy ambitions.
The groundbreaking makes Obelisk the second major milestone in Egypt this year for Scatec, following its earlier success in launching the country’s first operational green hydrogen plant.
The Obelisk project is a hybrid solar and battery storage facility, designed to deliver both clean power and grid stability—an increasingly vital need as Egypt transitions away from fossil fuels.
