Nigeria’s NDPHC Collaborates with PowerChina to Enhance Grid Capacity

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has announced a partnership with PowerChina, a prominent Chinese state-owned enterprise, to jointly develop large-scale renewable energy projects in Nigeria. This collaboration aims to boost the nation’s grid-connected generation capacity and support Nigeria’s clean energy transition. The partnership is being structured under a Government-to-Government (G2G) framework, and discussions are ongoing to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for infrastructure development and funding with the Chinese government.

Engr. Abdullahi Kassim, NDPHC’s Executive Director of Generation, shared these developments during a visit to PowerChina’s exhibition stand at the 12th Nigeria Energy Exhibition and Conference in Lagos. He emphasized the NDPHC’s commitment to utilizing PowerChina’s expertise in manufacturing solar components, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the photovoltaic value chain. Kassim reiterated NDPHC’s core mission: to close the electricity gap in Nigeria through effective generation, transmission, and distribution.

PowerChina’s Global Director, Sammi Zhou, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the need for stronger regulatory measures to prevent the influx of substandard solar equipment. Zhou noted that this collaboration marks a significant step toward developing major renewable energy projects in Nigeria, building on previous successful engagements between the two entities.
