Mauritania’s state-owned mining company, Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM), has commissioned a new solar photovoltaic plant to supply electricity to its regional grid, marking a major step in its energy strategy.
The announcement came more than a decade after SNIM launched its first solar installation, underlining its ongoing shift toward renewable energy for industrial operations.
This second, larger solar plant is part of the company’s broader goal to improve power reliability and cut costs for its mining operations, which are a backbone of Mauritania’s economy.
